BPW was organized in July 1919 to promote the interest of business and professional women regardless of industry or position. The National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs’ (NFBPWC) is proud to continue with that vision of seeing women from different backgrounds be able to, and feel welcomed to, work cohesively and learn from each other -- all over the country and around the world. 



We believe that our organization will be more innovative and successful if we infuse DEI into all aspects of our culture, and have set our sights on:

  • Providing a clear understanding of what cultural competency is and what it is not,
  • Raising a greater awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues that go well beyond the assumed categories,
  • Recommending useful tools for fostering a welcoming and cohesive NFBPWC,
  • Discussing culture which is a strong part of people's lives. It influences our views, values, humor, hopes, loyalties, worries, and fears, and
  • Embracing, and being comfortable in, our dialogue and actions.


NFBPWC is committed to ensuring our clubs and affiliates attract, accept, and respect members from across all demographics. To us, diversity is the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values, and beliefs as assets to the groups and organizations with which they interact. It is the presence of a difference in each setting.


We are also committed to ensuring that our members have access to the same opportunities and require our leadership teams to understand the root causes of why disparities exist. NFBPWC members know there is a system of privileges and barriers at play. Because everyone is beginning their DEI journey at a different point, we strive to meet people where they are.


NFBPWC works to eliminate barriers to participation, too. We are committed to offering membership training programs for building inclusive environments, and inclusive practices for making people of different identities feel valued, welcomed, and invested within our groups.

The DEI Committee works to build awareness for, and uphold the tenets of, the DEI initiative that has a focus on: 
  • Encouraging a diverse membership across generations,

  • Cultivating leaders from all walks of life and at every phase of their careers,

  • Creating a more vibrant space for virtual interactions that span across the nation and globe, and

  • Increasing our relevancy by aligning with like-minded organizations so that we can achieve our mission more fully.

Sher Singh has facilitated Cultural Competency workshops for over 25 years. She was president of the Cultural Task Force of Orange County, NY. She guided trainings for non-profits, for profits, educational institutions, and civic groups. Sher sat on a domestic violence board and mental health board dealing with underlayers of cultural imbalances. She created the first ever Pine Bush Central School District Diversity Committee including students, staff, and community members. Sher is an Orange County Humans Rights Commission award recipient.

Her career was two-fold, in human services in public school, with youth at risk, a county run program, people with disabilities in the nonprofit field, and Section 8 Federal Family Self Sufficiency program with families. She also worked in the entertainment event planning business. Currently, Sher is a member of the Sacramento Continuum of Care – System Performance Committee (Representing constituencies and the broader CoC community in the planning, implementation, and debriefing of the Point-in-Time (PIT) Count of unsheltered persons).

Monica is currently the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (Penn Carey Law). Prior to this role, Monica clerked and was a litigator in private practice for six years. She began working in higher education in 2004 teaching legal research and writing and legal drafting. Monica also served as Dean of Students both at her alma mater, The George Washington University Law School (GW Law), and Penn Carey Law. Monica is a former member of the Executive Committee of The GW Law Alumni Board of Directors, past President of the GW Law Black Law Alumni Association, and the 2018 recipient of the GW Law School Distinguished Alumni Award.

Monica also enjoys being a Brand Partner with Young Living Essential Oils with her Be Well Being You business. She resides in Wyncote, PA with her partner, Michael Barham, as well as her two sons Miles (9) and Mason (6).

Daneene is a Registered Nurse and a life/supplemental health insurance expert based in Cleveland, OH. As the VP of Advocacy for NFBPWC, she serves as the bridge to other related organizations / initiatives and brings valuable health-related perspectives, while promoting the “little” things we can do in our daily lives embrace the differences and likeness of all people.

Kathy Kelly has been a small business owner for over 40 years and continues today with service to the new home industry in the US and Canada. Personnel Profiles conducts onsite sales training evaluations with an emphasis on identifying presentation strengths and advising builder clients where future training efforts can best be directed.

Internationally, Kathy has served as the BPW delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status on Women (2013- 2018) and recently completed a 3-year term on the Women for Water Partnership International Steering Committee (www.womenforwater.org) where IFBPW is a member organization. Kathy works with women in Afghanistan with two volunteer missions in 2010 and 2011 as interim country director, and continues to volunteer for the non-profit Afghans4Tomorrow.

At the national level, Kathy is the 2021-2022 Chair of Membership, directly supporting the NFBPWC Mission to empower women personally, professionally and politically. She is a past state president of BPW/Colorado.
