HR 8 was first introduced on March 1st, 2021 and was passed by the House of Representatives 10 days later! It is now up to the Senate to pass this crucial legislation to protect the lives of children in the US.
This legislation would make it law in all 50 states that to purchase a gun you must do a background check.
Currently, if you purchase a gun online or at a show, no background check is done. Background checks are only done if you purchase from a licensed dealer.
The 21 States that have this requirement, have a homicide rate that is 10 percent lower than states without it.
This lack of simple background checks to purchase guns makes our society and children vulnerable to violent mass shootings as seen in Uvalde and countless other schools in this country.
